Fill the bag with essentials, a bottle of water and a snack in a baggie. Now, shop. Just meander through every store on the mall and look for things you'd like to buy - but don't. When you get home, write down the really important things you saw that you'd like to have. Throw the list away. If you still remember the most important thing on the list next week, and you can afford it, go buy it.
5. Read Cinderella. Now, there's a perfect man - he was probably drawn by a woman. Understand that fairy-tale romance is just that and there's probably NO other explanation for it, it's a fairy-tale, doesn't happen in real life.
6. Get out of the house. This is important. Probably more important than any other thing you'll do. Just get out. Go some place, do something and make a difference for yourself. It doesn't have to be big, but do something different. Go to a different restaurant, a different park, or a different store. But change your habits. Make a GOOD new habit.
7. Find a new and better job. Probably not every time you dump someone or get dumped, but if it's really that big a deal move UP in your world and find a better position in life. I've even been known to move to a better apartment.
8. Read a book. Nope, not a mushy lovers romance, read something with meat in it. Go for substance, John Gresham, Vince Flynn, Charlie Wilson, or Sydney Sheldon and put some mystery in your life. Heck, go for broke and read Dean Koontz.
9. Take a class. Learning something new will make you a better person, give you a new outlook and refresh your optimism. This is always a good thing to do. Take a class, meet new people and risk getting to know the opportunities available for you in the world. There are plenty out there.
10. Get connected to an important cause. My favorite all time new cause was the pregnancy league. A group of people dedicated to making new parenting a good choice for young moms. When you start out, you feel a bit misdirected, because everyone is giving young moms bad advice, but then you realize that you may be the reason just one mom keeps her baby and gives that baby a chance at a good life.
Encouraging others always makes you feel better.
Eventually, you'll figure out there are no perfect men and you'll be okay with that, but for now... Just determine to get over THIS one.
